Practice 03

Let the Song Move You

Quiet focus: Connection

A song can hold what ordinary conversation cannot. It may bring back a person, a place, an earlier version of you, or a feeling that has been difficult to reach.

Music can also meet you exactly where you are without asking you to explain yourself. This practice is simply an invitation to listen with your full attention and allow an honest response.

Practice Invitation

Choose one song.

It may:

  • Match your present mood.
  • Gently change your mood.
  • Bring back a memory.
  • Make you feel steady.
  • Give you energy.
  • Help you release something.
  • Remind you of a person or part of yourself.

Play the song without doing anything else for a few minutes. Sit with it, sing, hum, tap your hands, sway, stretch, or dance in whatever way feels natural and physically comfortable.

Notice where the music reaches you—in memory, emotion, breath, body, or imagination. You do not need to create a particular feeling.

Let one song be the whole practice.
